Patricia Deck, my wife and inspiration, is an artist. She has studied for decades to increase her painting skills. Color, texture, composition and brush stroke are languages and she is fluent in all. Patty can produce wonderful works in oil, acrylic, pastel or water color. However, those marvelous skills cannot alone or even in tandem produce art. When art emerges, and appears on the canvass it comes from her heart and soul. The paint and the skill are just materials and tools. Another interesting phenomenon is that once the art emerges little can be done to enhance it. In fact, even a little more painting may actually diminish the art! Are my business friends seeing any parallel here? How often do we overdo and over complicate what is working artfully. I think we should often look for the art then sign the painting and enjoy the result rather than tweaking for just a little bit more!
